People often ask me why it is I chose the Old Testament as my area of specialty. There are many answers to the question, but I think the primary one is to do with the sheer humanity of the material we find within the books of the Hebrew Bible. When I read and study these texts, I am constantly aware that the issues that confront me (us) in the quest to understand who God is and who we are before God are the same issues that are addressed in the writings of the Hebrew Bible. There is a depth and an honesty of expression that brings all of who we are as human beings before God, both the best and the worst of our humanity. And that in itself keeps these ancient texts alive for me today.
As well as being passionate about the material, I am also passionate about teaching. It is a real privilege to be able to share with students as they discover the depth and complexity of the biblical material. Having taught at a private Catholic University in Perth for the last five years University of Notre Dame), I am looking forward to teaching here in Adelaide in the context of the ACD. Having lived in NSW, ACT, Victoria and WA, South Australia is a new adventure for me and my family.
I am married to Phil, and have two sons, Aidan and Callum. Some of my other loves in life are good coffee, good novels, long walks on the beach and long conversations with friends.
